More articles on furnished apartments

•February 8, 2010 • Leave a Comment

The Condé Nast Traveller March issue states on the cover:

City break secrets. Great apartments to rent in Rome, Venice, London, Paris and Barcelona.

Wow, it’s clearly fashionable to rent out an apartment instead of sleeping in a hotel.

Shame, Brussels is not mentioned…

Article not available online but other interesting things to read on their website.

Dodo à la Parisienne…

…was the title of an article in De Morgen some weeks ago. It was about the new trend in tourism: renting out furnished apartments in cities in stead of expensive small hotels. It gave an overview of apartments that are for rent in Paris. In every possible corner of Paris you have a choice ranking from studio’s till 2 bedroom palaces. Prices start generally from €70/night with in most places a minimum of 2,3 or 4 nights.

I have always been a big fan of aparthotels, reason I opened one, never knew it was hip & trendy ;-)

Sorry, article not available anymore on De Morgen site.

Shooting for Duval Guillaume

•January 22, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Last Friday we had a shooting for Duval Guillaume in our penthouse! All participants worked for free: the photographer Fred van Hoof, the creative team Tom&Geert, the account girls Pauline&Ann casted as models, the male model, the stylist,…everyone did his best to realize this picture. Housestories offered the penthouse for free, a small gesture for my colleagues! Hopefully now the ad gets sold and the team wins a price with in! Cross your fingers…

Inspiring museum

Not far from Housestories lies a very inspiring museum: Wiels. Check out their website for the latest art exhibitions. Not sure to call it a museum or  art gallery or architectural site? Wiels is a bit of everything at the same time…

The ‘Blomme’ brewery was built in 1880 by  the Wielemans-Ceuppens family. Unfortunately the last beer was brewed there in 1988.

Decades were filled with ambitious plans for the building and its surroundings but only in 2005 Wiels finally opened its doors and offered Brussels the modern art center it deserved.

I must admit that I believe the Brussels decision makers could have made something bigger and better of it, specially in terms of revaluation of the neighbourhood. The surroundings look awful, dirty and dangerous and I suppose can come across as pretty shocking to tourists.

What seems to work in the rest of the world – revaluation of an industrial area and turning it into a vital part of the city – never succeeds in Brussels. Maybe due to the lack of overall vision? Maybe due to the 19 communes that don’t seem to need a bigger plan? No clue but Brussels remains a shattered missed opportunity in my eyes…

New discussions on budgets, funding, etc are making the future of Wiels uncertain. I can only hope that all concerned parties understand the importance of such a place in Brussels. Go and see it before it closes down and cross fingers that the latter doesn’t happen.

Sorry to warn you so late but it slipped my mind…Tonight, Saturday January 16th on RTL-TVI, Housestories will be appear at 18.30 in the program: Clé sur Porte. They have interviewed Alexandre and filmed the penthouse…I wasn’t there so it will be for me as much as a surprise as for you. I will try to get the program available online as well.

To announce this program this strange ad appeared in the Ciné Télé Revue…Funny and we didn’t have a clue!

working session in an aparthotel

•January 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment

Today we had our first working session in 2010. How does this work at Housestories? Well, first of all we don’t have an office space yet. As a small start-up we need to watch every euro that we spent so we decided not to rent anything till our business kicks off.

In the early days during the renovation we spent most of our time at the ‘Bar du Matin’ (see earlier posts). Now since our apartments are all set we use the most beautiful one – the penthouse- as our office! You would too no?

Fred, a talented photographer passed by to do some location scouting and took a snap shot of us at work…Fun!

Check out here for Fred’s website.

Star system?

•January 3, 2010 • Leave a Comment

I spent new years eve in a 5 star Bilbao hotel. Granted it was nice and yep, I paid only €88/night thanks to Expedia, but was it really a worthy 5 stars?

What did I expect from a 5 star hotel I wondered?

I started to do some research on how the stars are given to the hotels. We all know how restaurants get their desired Michelin stars, but how do hotels received them?

I found an interesting article on the subject after some research…read here for the full article.

For the lazy ones, it depends on each country, organisation, county, city,…

So in short, don’t get blindfolded by those stars!

Happy New Year!!!!!
